In the last few years, the point of sale Flora Toscana Prodotti per il Florovivaismo (Flora Toscana Products for Nursery Gardening) centred in Latina had the honour to provide the Vatican Gardens with products such as fertilisers. Since January 2016 the POS offers useful insects like small spiders and entomopathogenic nematodes, types of insects that feast upon those bugs dangerous to the cultivation following the general outline of a more eco-friendly integrated pest control. The Vatican Gardens extend for about 23 hectares, comparable to over half of the 44 hectares in which the Vatican lies. They date back to 1279 when Pope Nicholas III decided to move the papal residence from the Lateran Palace to the Vatican area.
The Gardens, the green heart of the Vatican, is divided into various areas: Italian Garden, British Garden, French Garden, Streingarten, the Pope’s Vegetable Patch. The Vatican Gardens are a real naturalistic and architectonic treasure that can be visited even by the public.
